Growly is an adaptive learning platform built for the full range of Australian learners — from Year 1 through Year 12. It was created because too many children fall through the gaps of a system designed for the average, the present, and the neurotypical. Growly exists for the ones who don’t fit that description.

Why we built it

Every day in Australia, children who are school-refusing wake up to another day without learning. Children with neurodivergent profiles sit in classrooms calibrated for someone else’s pace. Gifted students wait while the rest of the class catches up. Home-educating families piece together resources from a dozen different places. These children are not rare exceptions — they represent hundreds of thousands of Australian families doing their best in a system that wasn’t designed with them in mind.

Growly was designed from the ground up to serve this full range. Not as an afterthought, not as an accessibility retrofit — but as the founding design constraint. A platform built well for the hardest-to-serve learner is a better platform for every learner.

What Growly does differently

Growly uses short, adaptive learning cycles that adjust in real time based on what a child understands and where they get stuck. Progress is visible, meaningful, and mapped directly to the Australian Curriculum — so parents and teachers understand exactly what a GROWL level means without needing to translate it.

The GROWL Framework is at the heart of how Growly measures learning. Five levels — Grounding, Rising, On Track, Widening, and Leading — apply consistently across every subject and every year level. Level 3, On Track, represents the curriculum achievement standard for each year. This shared language works for an 8-year-old, their parent, and their teacher simultaneously.

Built on research, not assumption

Growly is founded by Dr Lynette Maguire, whose doctoral and postgraduate research spans technology and teen behaviour, school refusal, and the socioenvironmental factors that shape adolescent mental health. Her current academic work — three papers in preparation on AI-supported learning tools for neurodivergent students, governance, and safeguarding — forms the intellectual foundation for every design decision Growly makes.

Growly is not borrowing from the evidence base. It is building it.

The full journey

Growly accompanies a student from their first day of Year 1 through the end of Year 12 — and in the senior school years, through to a nationally recognised vocational qualification. Through the VET in Schools (VETiS) framework, senior students can graduate with both their senior certificate and a Certificate II, III, or IV in business, technology, health services, or other pathways — emerging naturally from their elective and project work, not as extra study bolted on at the end.

Alongside the core Australian Curriculum subjects, Growly’s elective library gives students genuine choice in what they explore: philosophy and ethics, the human body, world geography, space, economics, nature, design, creative writing, and more. These aren’t extras. They’re the parts of learning that keep curiosity alive.

Safeguarding-first, always

Growly is designed for some of the most vulnerable learners in the Australian school system. Safeguarding is not a compliance layer — it is a design principle. Privacy, consent, and data minimisation are built into the way the platform works. No advertising. No third-party data sharing. Full parental visibility at all times.

Who Growly is for

Growly is for any family where learning has become harder than it should be. That includes children who are school-refusing or frequently absent, learners with neurodivergent profiles including ADHD, dyslexia, and autism, students who are gifted and under-challenged, home-educating families, and any child who needs a different pace, a different structure, or simply a fresh start.

You do not need a diagnosis to use Growly. If your child has a diagnosis or a formal support plan, Growly can sit alongside that. If they don’t, Growly can still help.
